Illect Recordings isn’t playin’ in 2018. They’ve hit ground runnin’ and, naturally, the first project to get SDLHH hip to their building momentum this year is Imperial’s “Know the Call” featuring Sareem Poems (fka Sharlock Poems of LA Symphony), and North County San Diego drummer, producer, spitter, Sojourn.
No frills. No bells and whistles. Just raw hip hop. The trio sticks to the things that they know best, beats, rhymes, and life (funny enough, Sareem Poems actually said that as I typed this – I’m in the right vein). Imperial creates a head-knocking, sample-heavy, beat, keeping it open enough for Sareem Poems and Sojourn to spit stream of consciousness that sits in the pocket, loosely tied together by humble braggadocio, an emphasis on ‘real rap’, and a recognition of the connection between the physical and the spiritual. Listen. Enjoy. Share.
